🌲 Forest ⛰️ Summit ⛰️ Mountain range ❄️ Glacial landform 🌴 Jungle ⛰️ Hill stationThe southern district of Sikkim offers a unique and rural spectacle of endless waves of agricultural fields and terraced slopes intercepted by spring forests. It covers a total area of about 75,000 hectares. In terms of area, it is the smallest district in Sikkim and the second smallest in terms of population. Namchi or Namtse (meaning "high sky") is the capital of South Sikkim, nestled in the hills at 5500 feet above sea level and offering panoramic views of the snow-capped mountains and vast expanses of the valley. The things to see in this area are undoubtedly the Karma Rabdenling Goenpa, Ralong. This Goenpa (monastery) stands a large tree whose trunk and branches are shaped like a trident. Devotees believe that this tree represents the trident of Guru Rinpoche (Padmasambhava). In addition, there are many events and festivals not to be missed like the Namchi Mahatsov. It is a festival celebrated in October that offers tourists a glimpse of the cultural diversity of Sikkim. It is a celebration of the dance, festivals, lifestyle, and habits of various ethnic groups of Sikkim like Bhutia, Lepchas, Rai, Limboo, Newar, etc. The festival also promotes Thanka paintings, Choksis and Dens, as well as ethnic cuisines of Sikkim like Shel-Roti, Wachipa, Gyakho, Chewra, and others. Traditional Sikkimese costumes like Bakhu-Honju, Gada, Daura Sural and others can be seen. The festival is celebrated according to the philosophy of Sikkim ecotourism, where the rich cultural heritage is showcased in all its grandeur. Short tours are organized to tourist places like Chamgoan Park, Handloom Center, Ngadak Monastery, Chemchey Picnic Site, and other places. Mountaineering, mountain biking, trekking, and bird watching activities are also organized.
